205 Madison Street – The Edward Murrell House

This Greek Revival style home was built in 1859 for Dr. Edward H. Murrell and is one of Lynchburg’s largest and finely designed mansions of the antebellum period. Its size is embellished due to it being set on a high English basement. Exceptional architectural features include its large windows capped with pedimented hoods, the tall Corinthian columns of the Temple of the Winds order prominently displayed on the front porch, and its ornate entablature consisting of interlocking circles with rosettes.
